Twin half-centuries from Lachlan Coyte and Ed Morrish led the way to Orange City’s six-wicket victory over Kinross to notch the Warriors’ first win of the Orange District Cricket Association season on Saturday.

City chased down the target of 166 with relative ease, despite skipper Morrish lauding Kinross’ bowling effort to keep them tied down.
“They bowled stump to stump and with good fielding and a low pitch there wasn’t much we could do,” he said.
Gus Cumming took three wickets on his return from the UK, claiming 3-57 from his 14 overs.
Kinross opening bowlers Hugh McIntyre and Ed Taylor kept the innings tight for the first 30 overs or so, going for 28 and 25 runs from nine and 11 overs respectively, but neither could take the wicket of Craig Rogan or Blake Weymouth.
Morrish said Rogan and Weymouth “absorbed the pressure”, which then paved the way for Coyte (62 not out) and Morrish (51 not out) to guide the Warriors to victory.
“Lachie batted beautifully, it was the best I’ve ever seen him bat,” Morrish said of Coyte’s maiden first-grade half-century, while said he was also pleased to have runs under his belt in the Warriors’ first game of the season.
The pitch wasn’t easy to play on, and echoing pre-game comments the Warriors didn’t rush to get the runs for a push at outright, and rather plugged away making sure they got there.
It took them just under 60 overs to make the total, with Morrish and Kinross skipper Sam Ridley shaking hands after 61 overs with City on 4-181 and no prospect of an outright win for either side.
“If we’d got their total 15 or 20 overs earlier I would have thought about it, but with the pitch and the way they batted last week we decided not to,” Morrish said.
