Orange City Council arborist Bruce Smith has met with tree crews from the council and Essential Energy’s contractor Active Tree Services to improve the tree’s appearance and promote new growth.
After the savage pruning it received from the contractors in September there has been about 15 centimetres of new growth in spring.
The crews have undertaken pruning, removing dead limbs and cleared decayed vegetation from the base to improve the tree’s look.
Orange mayor Cr Reg Kidd said he was pleased the organisations were working together to repair the damage.
“The work gave crews involved the opportunity to clean up some inaccessible parts of the tree and that will be good for its long-term health,” he said.
The tree in Lone Pine Avenue is believed to have been planted at the site in 1939 and was sourced from plant stock brought from Gallipoli.
The site is used as a memorial for commemoration events by the RSL.
