Eight Day Games secretary Jason Lyne said he was hoping to keep contestants on their toes for the 20 events spread across eight days, and after last year’s motorised esky time trial, those vying for the title of King and Queen need to expect the unexpected.
Lyne is keeping tight-lipped on what the events will be, with some still being confirmed.
On top of new mystery events, regular events such as clay target shooting and archery will again crop up, and Lyne confirmed fan favourite karting would return in 2018.
Registrations opened on September 22, and Lyne said there was already a waiting list in the Kings category with 35 signed up and five waiting to join, while 28 women had registered with spots for two more before a waiting list came into calculations.
Eight Day Games legend and reigning Queen Cathy Johnson will return for her 21st competition – hunting for her 11th win – while last year’s King Henry Savage is yet to confirm if he’ll be able to defend his title in November.
He confirmed the all-abilities category of the race would continue, with Prue McCarthy and Joel Everett signing on to go around again, with more spots available.
Lyne said it was fantastic to see so many register early.
“It really does take a lot of pressure off us (as an organising committee) as we don’t have to chase registrations, it allows us to focus on organising the events,” he said.
“We’re still going strong all we’re thankful for the support from all the sporting clubs and the community, McDonalds, the council, it’s great.”
The Eight Day Games kick off from November 17. Anyone wishing to sign up or know more to contact Lyne on 0409 822 334.
