To upgrade the system we needed to close the toddler pool.
- Nick Redmond, Orange City Council
Orange City Council spokesman Nick Redmond said the outdoor pool would open on Monday while the toddler pool opened last week after maintenance.
“Every few years, as equipment reaches the end of its useful life, it needs to be replaced,” he said.
“The time had come for sand filters on the toddlers’ pool to be replaced with an upgraded models which will need far less maintenance over time than the models we currently use.
“To upgrade the system we needed to close the toddler pool temporarily.”
He said they minimised disruption by doing the work in cooler months.
“Unfortunately that closer was longer than expected,” he said.
Mr Redmond said they also did other maintenance work on the building which led to dust and debris settling in the empty pool.
“Because of that we had to vacuum the bottom of the toddler pool often, which meant the pool remained closed for longer,” he said.
“We appreciate it’s been frustrating for people wanting to use the toddler pool.”
The outdoor pool will be open from noon to 6pm on Monday before returning to normal hours.
