The council resolved in March last year to form the club, which will have prime access to lanes at Orange Aquatic Centre, and Jets Swimming Club agreed to dissolve to cut down the number of clubs vying for training space.
The City of Orange Swim Club, which decided not to merge with Jets to form the new club, will have lesser priority.
At the recent council meeting, councillor Tony Mileto asked whether the positions of vice-president and education director had been advertised yet.
Community services director Scott Maunder said they had not.
“At this stage there are no members of that club and we have to allow time for members to join,” he said.
“We need to start from somewhere so after discussions with Swimming NSW, we decided to open the new club to membership so people could join.
“Then under the constitution those positions such as deputy president and all the other deputy roles need to be nominated from its membership and voted on by its members.”
The council’s swim club will start operations from October 1.
The council will issue more information and a link to join, with information days held at the aquatic centre over the coming weekends.
An interim committee will be in place for six weeks until a meeting in November when the board positions are voted on – Mr Maunder said the positions would be advertised during the six weeks.
