Charles Sturt University (CSU) has invited the public on campus next Wednesday for a storytelling event under the stars.
Astronomer Rod Somerville from Orange Planetarium and Ray Pickard from Bathurst Observatory Research Facility will point out pictures in the sky at Orange’s Girinyalanha Park.
Guest speaker Doug Sutherland will tell traditional stories and offer insight into how the Wiradjuri people have used the stars and planet systems for thousands of years.
CSU’s Renae Symons said the September 12 event is co-funded by Future Moves.
The government program aims to encourage more young people from regional and rural areas to access higher education, by pairing universities with schools.
The CSU Orange partnership with Canobolas Rural Technology High School, Glenroi Heights Public School, Glenroy Public School, James Sheahan Catholic High School and Orange High School will see students attend workshops and events at the campus throughout the year.
Ms Symons said she hopes the students and families will come up next Wednesday night to enjoy Aboriginal dance, music, a barbecue and traditional food by Gerald Power.
“Hoping to come together to enjoy an evening of stars and community,” she said.
