A campaign by the NSW Public Libraries Association and Local Government NSW had warned that 360 public libraries were at risk, after the recent budget’s 5 per cent funding cut.
Orange Deputy Mayor Joanne McRae said the decision by the NSW Government to boost funding was good for the community.
“Libraries are crucial meeting places for people of all ages. They provide valuable services, and they’re always discovering new ways to connect people with high quality information.”
Cr McRae said she was delighted that the government had responded to a grassroots campaign and decided to review funding.
“Our library managers will be looking closely when we see the details of the new funding arrangements to see how to get the best value for the money provided,” she said.
