Australia needs skilled workers and our workers need skills.  Despite our modern and innovative country being at the forefront of many sectors, there are still large gaps in our skills training.

National Skills Week aims to remind parents and especially career educators at schools, that there are many trades and skills that can create a happy and fulfilling lifetime of work for their students.

Now moving into its eighth year, National Skills Week will again set out to bring to life the positive messages, highlighting the talents, the skills, the career pathways and the value of apprentices and trainees across Australia to the wider public and employers. The week is dedicated to raising the status of practical and vocational learning.

The Australian Government, assisted by SkillsOne are working to meet the unique challenges that address national skill and labour demands and provide opportunity for Australians young and old, to benefit from a growth economy.

From August 27 to September 3 there will be a range of activities and media coverage to highlight the importance and value of skills training.  This will help to raise the status of practical and vocational learning, enabling all Australians to gain a greater understanding of the opportunities, their potential, and how they can contribute to a successful, modern economy.
