With a number of key players including goalkeeper Pat Driver out of action, Denley went into the match against club-mates Brighouse with players out of their regular positions.
But the side’s attacking formation quickly fell into shape, piling on six goals before the half-time break.
Brighouse kept trying and they found the net when striker Matt Barr sent a long throw from the sideline into the box. Stand-in keeper Al Reeder blocked the shot from Mark Brouff, but Hayden Trott followed through on the deflected ball to score.
In the end, Denley forwards were too good. Dave Walker and Phill Bennett both finished the match with hat-tricks. Harley Smith bagged two including a cracking cross from 20 metres out to bring up the club’s signature 8-1 milestone.
Richie Shields weaved through a string of defenders to score and defender Dan Rumbold added to his season’s tally lobbying the ball over the keeper’s head on the half-volley.
The match was closer than the 10-1 margin suggested, with Brighouse continuing to grow in confidence.
At the top of the table, Waratahs managed to kept their winning streak intact with a 3-2 win over Millthorpe Tigers.
