A NSW Environmental Protection Authority spokeswoman said the body was working with current and former owners to determine responsibility for the contamination.
“Once this is resolved, a strategy to address the contamination will be implemented, in line with the NSW Government’s polluter pays principle,” she said.
However, she said the contamination was contained and there were no immediate risks to users of the Electrolux site and off-site buildings.
The EPA has not received any complaints regarding the site in the past 12 months.
Groundwater beneath the site is contaminated with solvents, but Electrolux has said it did not use the chemicals since it took over the site in 2001.
