‘Break It Down’ The Roadshow is a culmination of the Desert Pea Media project which saw the film crew travel to Western NSW for 12 weeks to collaborate with six Indigenous communities in the region.
The group worked with young people, elders, community members and health professionals to produce a series of film projects designed to create awareness about mental health for young people.
The six music videos and 12 short films, which attempt to unpack the underlying themes, challenges and opportunities in Indigenous mental health will be screened at PCYC from 6:15 – 9:30pm on Friday.
The free and open event includes community catering, guest speakers, live performances and a celebration of the achievements of local communities.
Featured in the films shot in and around Orange are, a group of 15 students from Orange High School, James Sheahan Catholic High School and Canobolas Rural Technology High School, who worked together to make a hip hop music video with a message.
Indigenous psychologist Nathan Sutherland and brothers Caleb and Jacob Sutherland worked together to create a second short film at Orange Aquatic Centre.
