TAFE NSW Orange-based beauty and hairdressing schools are on the look out for adult clients to help fill appointments.
Certificate 3 Beauty Service students are looking to hone their skills performing services which include manicures, pedicures, lash extensions and spray tanning.
Jenny Agland has been visiting the March Street campus to get that pretty feeling for more than three years and said there’s no way she could afford her regular treatments elsewhere.
“I’m on a pension, I just wouldn’t do it,” she said.
Mrs Agland said the experience is exactly like visiting a beauty salon and part of the joy for her is getting to chat with the young students.
“At the start of the term they’re a bit shy, but in just a few weeks they’re full of confidence,” she said.
Student Casey Watts said TAFE NSW Orange is the only institution in the Central West to offer the beauty course. Her other option to pursue her career path would mean travelling to Sydney, which she says is unrealistic.
“I’ve always been into makeup and tanning. I’ll be ready to work in a salon once I’ve finished here,” she said.
“A good beauty therapist puts you first and make it’s all about you want.”
Each session is supervised by qualified teachers like Rebecca Phillips.
Mrs Phillips said all of the beauty therapy and hairdressing services are available for between $10-$50.
“Beauty is a popular course at the moment and we are always in need of models,” she said.
