Some of these physicians would have clinical responsibilities for more than one region, for example Bathurst, Dubbo and Orange.
Two of these positions are currently vacant.
In addition we require three advanced training positions – general medicine, cardiology, renal, gastroenterology – and two more junior training positions in medicine.
All-in-all, we have a need for eight specialists and five training positions for which there is no government funding to enable Orange to recruit the necessary doctors now.
What is most disheartening is that on behalf of the Nationals’ agenda to lure the electorate and secure their votes, member for Calare Andrew Gee has implacably set his sights on splashing approximately $50 million of taxpayer dollars on the Murray Darling Medical School in the name of the medical welfare of the community.
Do not be deceived by Mr Gee’s political spin: This is for political benefit of the Nationals and it is not in your primary interest.
We, as the doctors at the coalface, know intimately what will redress the medical workforce shortage in regional Australia.
Again, we invite Mr Gee and the Nationals to consult with us for solutions that will genuinely be in your best interests.
