That’s the message from Blayney captain-coach Tim Mortimer following his side’s promising Group 10 premier league loss to Orange Hawks on Sunday afternoon, a game the Bears could easily have won had their capitalised on a number of chances that fell by the wayside.
Mortimer acknowledged there is plenty the Bears must work on from the eight-point, 26-18 defeat – particularly ball handling, the side was guilty of knocking on constantly – but the progress his outfit made from a 52-12 hammering at the hands of Bathurst St Pat’s seven days earlier was massive.
He put those errors and a couple of ordinary decisions late in the game down to fatigue and some lack of cohesion, being a new side, but he’s confident a victory is just around the corner.
“The belief is back in the side, even though we haven’t got the win yet we know it’s coming soon,” Mortimer said, moments after full-time on Sunday.
“We’ll keep working hard for it and when it comes, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we really enjoy it and keep rolling with the momentum, because it has been a long time coming here in Blayney.
“There’s always little turning points in game and we could’ve made some better decisions (on Sunday) but we’re a new side, we’re still forming combinations, we’re not quite there in terms of that but it will come. It’s getting better.”
It won’t get any easier for Blayney this weekend though, the Bears face Cowra in their first road trip of the season next Sunday.
