Raising money and awareness for the Country Education Foundation, teams are pushing Percy the pig 200 kilometres from Orange to its home-base in Boorowa.
The group was to finish the first leg of the journey in Nashdale and other overnight stops are planned for Cargo, Canowindra and Cowra.
This is the second year of the Pig Push, which last year went in the opposite direction.
The foundation is based in Orange and through community committees helps country kids pursue further education.
Money raised from the pig push will go towards helping those country students who have to leave home for further training or education with costs such as accommodation or tools.
Some of the beneficiaries will return to the country with their new skills.
More than 4000 students nationally have received help from the foundation and the Orange committee, which formed in 2011 has helped 40 students.
Country Education Foundation of Orange committee member Juliet Petersen was among the volunteers who put on a bright yellow shirt to help push Percy on Sunday.
“It’s just a great opportunity, particularly in Food Week to raise the visibility of the Country Education Foundation and its work to support country kids,” Mrs Petersen said.
Foundation alumni project officer Christina Porter said some country kids have families that are asset rich with property but they may not have ready funds to help them leave home to attend university or training.
