With the final round of the 2018 season this weekend, the undefeated Group 10 open’s side has already booked its place in the decider, with a win from Group 11 against the Woodbridge Cup on Saturday expected to set up another hugely anticipated 10-versus-11 showdown.
But the race for places in the under 18s decider is a touch more fierce.
While a dominant Group 11 has sewn up one stop in the juniors grand final, the Woodbridge Cup girls have a small sniff at a shot at the premiership should they win big at Forbes on Saturday.
But, for Dwyer’s under 18s, simply a victory at Gulgong will gift the blue and whites a crack at the title, a shot the Group 10 girls are keen to earn.
“Exactly,” the clinical mentor fired.
“We’re focused on getting that win and building on the momentum we have. We’ve played well in last few games.”
Although yet to be confirmed, the WWRL grand finals look set to be staged at Bathurst on April 21 at the same venue the Western cluster matches will be taking place.
Such a setting, with a bumper crowd already on hand to watch the senior men’s representative clashes as well, is a massive carrot being dangled in front of the under 18s girls.
Dwyer said the whole Group 10 squad – senior and junior – was keen to see both sides gun for trophies on the big stage.
“It’d be awesome,” he said.
“They’re a great bunch of girls and the opens take a real interest in the 18s, always there to watch and support them.
“It’s a good little culture we’ve got building.”
The under 18s kick off on Saturday at 10.30am with the seniors on from 11.30am at Gulgong.
