The lesson was taught through Orange Veterinary Hospital’s interactive program Little Pet Vets, which has gone on the road to schools and community groups following a successful pilot program last year.
Orange Veterinary Hospital veterinarian Andrew Litchfield said every member of a family has a responsibility to love and care for their pet.
“This educational and interactive event empowers the smallest members of the family to look after the family cat or dog teaching simple techniques in animal handling, best nutritional care and care of native wildlife,” he said.
The roadshow began last month and Dr Litchfield hopes the free educational program is welcomed into other small schools in the district.
“It is our opportunity to give back to the community, sharing the knowledge we have to prepare children for a life of loving and caring for animals,” he said.
