The Community Building Partnerships program contributed $20,000, allowing the Glenroi Community Group to add seating around the basketball court at Edye Park opened last year, barbecue facilities and outdoor playground equipment.
Treasurer Graeme Davidson said it was part of a bid to give residents an alternative to Glenroi Oval.
“It’s going to benefit that southern area,” he said.
Mr Davidson said the group had initially requested $71,000 to pay for lighting to protect against vandalism and although it had not come through, the group would continue to apply.
“We think there’s another round so we’ll certainly keep our eye out,” he said.
Member for Orange Phil Donato supported the group’s bid and presented the money on Wednesday.
“These facilities will promote greater social interaction and cohesion whilst providing those who reside in Glenroi with equitable access to communal facilities,” he said.
