Explaining the NSW/QLD rugby rivalry to a Melburnian is like describing Melbourne’s north/south divide to anyone outside the VIC city – you know it exists but you’re unsure why or if you should care.

As a southerner, I’m yet to grasp the difference between Rugby League, Rugby Union, the Broncos or … the badgers and choosing teams is stressful.

A trip to Bunnings after the rugby league opener confirmed this.

Broncos supporter Michael Quinn seemed downtrodden, insisting the team is getting its losses out early.

“Didn’t you guys lose last night?” chimed a colleague in a NSW Origin jersey.

“Didn’t you lose for 12 years?” piped Mr Quinn.
