Competition leaders Orange City and Cavaliers are locked in for finals appearances, while Centrals and CYMS are now fighting it out to join the powerhouse duo in the top three.
Waratahs were still a huge chance of sneaking into the finals leading into the weekend but a two-day draw against CYMS has ruled them out of the post-season frame with one game remaining.
They’re are now 15.06 points behind third-placed Centrals but with only a maximum of seven points available to the side this weekend, there’s no chance they can make it.
Waratahs essentially forced that draw too, by batting for the best part of their match-up with CYMS.
Matt Rumble (107 not out) was simply superb in scoring his second straight ton while Jason Bailey (67 not out) posted a second half century on the trot too, as their sky blues declared at 5-274.
But after batting 105 overs for that big total, Waratahs only had 44 to bowl CYMS out and couldn’t, the green and golds finished the day at 3-122 with Gavin Bridge remaining 62 not out and easily navigating his side to stumps.
CYMS can still make it though, they trail Centrals by 4.27, the latter side jumping to third thanks to a 51-run win over Kinross on the weekend.
It was led by Matt Tedeschi (54) with the bat, and Roshan Eiseman with the ball, he took a stunning 7-22 to roll the students for 110 in reply to Centrals’ 161.
It was Eiseman’s best figures since his last five-wicket haul back in 2010-11.
Centrals batted again for 100, before Kinross finished 5-106 in search of 151 for victory.
The green and golds will need to beat Kinross, and hope competition leaders Orange City take down Centrals.
Last weekend the Warriors downed Cavaliers to once again steal the competition lead from the maroons, they had no right to win though.
In reply to Cavaliers’ 201 the Warriors resumed at 3-18 and quickly slumped to 6-39, a collapse which should have ended the greens’ hopes of a win.
It didn’t though, as the fightback started through Ross Beasley (66 not out) and Shaun Kirby (52) adding 83 before the latter was dismissed.
Beasley then added an unbeaten 89 with Mick Evans (48 not out) to seal the unlikeliest of three-wicket wins.
All the maroons’ bowlers were great despite the loss, Fergus O’Shea was unbelievable for Cavaliers,
In fourth grade Centrals-Wanderers (2-139) beat CYMS (130) easily, despite Pat Duffy making 70 for the green and golds, while CYMS (5-216) beat Orange City (9-213) in Centenary Cup.
