Not according to the organiser of Christmas Eve Eve Kyle Manning, who this year has added an extra “eve” to the name after the event fell on December 22 this year.
Called Christmas Eve Eve Eve this year, Manning said it’s basically “a musician’s Christmas party”, bringing musicians from across the region to town for an informal one-night performance.
This is the sixth year of the event, which is held annually at the Hotel Canobolas, and was the brain-child of Manning and former councillor and owner of One Agency Orange’s Ash Brown.
The event partners with the Canobolas to raise money for Give Me Five for Kids, a charity run by Southern Cross Austereo, which helps children in hospitals in regional areas.
Manning said that meant the money raised by the Canobolas at this and their other events stayed in and around Orange.
He said the event usually raises about $4000 thanks to punters chipping in to a donation bucket, the hotel giving part of the bar profits and sponsorship by One Agency Orange and radio stations Triple M and Hit105.9.
“It’s a bit of an institution now and always gets a good reaction from people,” Manning said.

“A lot of people have a real party night and celebration night for a good cause.
“Regardless of your beliefs about Christmas, it’s a time to reflect and help those less fortunate than ourselves.”
He said a lot of the local musicians embraced it.
“That’s why we do it, we get together and have a jam every year,” he said
Some of the bands to keep an eye out for, according to Manning, is The Happy Endings, who this year are planning a U2 tribute, the Honey Dripping Mud Skippers and crowd favourites The Room Upstairs.
Manning said the Mud Skippers is a “great jug band”, who play along the lines of an old jazz band and are “not your standard pub rock cover band”.
As for The Room Upstairs, Manning said they can be the surprise package.
“They don’t play together any more, so they get up there once a year and play what they can remember,” he said.
Christmas Eve Eve Eve is on Friday, December 22, at the Hotel Canobolas from 7pm until late.
