The Skills4Trade program, run in conjunction by Skillset Workforce and TAFE NSW, last week exposed eight Orange job-seekers to training in engineering, automotive, plumbing, painting and decorating, and civil construction.
As part of the course Ebonie Collins, Clare Taylor, Brandon Adams, Jordan French, Logan Constable, Harrison Pirie, Mackenzie Jones and Makaela Hobson also undertook training with the TAFE counsellor to build job seeking and work-readiness skills.
As a result of their successful completion of the course four of the group have secured work in the new year, with three of the students offered apprenticeships with PJL Group, and a fourth to start at Orange Precision Metalcraft.
Skillset Workforce senior manager Jane McWilliam said she was delighted with the success of the program, which won the Industry Collaboration Award at this year’s NSW Training Awards.
“It really is making a difference,” she said.
“I would particularly like to thank those businesses who hosted work placements here in Orange, PJL Group and Tony Leahy Automotive, and those who have made job offers to graduates.
“The program would not succeed without the support of local businesses.”
Skills4Trade is running again in Orange in 2018 with an engineering and automotive multi-trade program starting in February.
