While $3.25 favourite Better Under Fire’s run was excellent in claiming the $5,100 Gilgandra Toyota/Sporties Pace (2,120 metres) Orange’s Jake Davis steered Taylah Studleigh ($5) to a strong third, he was just edged out at the line for second.

Davis settled one back on the rails as the Amanda Turnbull-driven Rainbow On Fire ($3.25) set the early pace, Better Under Fire sat outside Turnbull’s three-year-old from the world go.
As the bell rang that order was the same, before Amy Rees, driving for Lester Hewitt, pressed Better Under Fire past Turnbull’s charge on the outside.
Hewitt picked up the one-two result as Turnbull and Rainbow On Fire fell away in the straight. While Davis and Taylah Studleigh finished strong Hewitt’s other hopeful – Runaway Jolt ($7), driven by John O’Shea – edged past them at the line to steal second place.
