A 54-year-old woman has been charged with reckless wounding following the stabbing on Thursday morning.
The victim was a 47-year-old woman, who suffered a knife puncture wound to the right side of her abdomen.
Chief Inspector Dave Harvey said the women were neighbours and the victim remained in a serious, but stable condition at Orange Health Service.
The 54-year-old was refused bail by police on Thursday and will face Orange Local Court on Friday.

A woman has been arrested and is being interviewed by police after a non-fatal stabbing on Thursday morning.
Canobolas police were called to Amaroo Crescent at 9am after a woman suffered a puncture wound in an altercation.
Chief Inspector Dave Harvey said the injury was non-life threatening and the woman arrested was helping police with their inquiries.
No charges have yet been laid.
