Former Kinross quick Chris Tremain and his Victorian side have plenty to do to get their bid for a fourth consecutive JLT Sheffield Shield title back on track, but the Bushrangers were given a small boost after a late Tasmanian declaration helped last week’s rain-affected clash peter out into a draw.

A massive middle order collapse and an Alex Doolan double-ton had the Vics staring down the barrel of defeat, but despite boasting a huge lead midway through the third and knowing rain was around, the Tigers batted, and batted, and batted.
Although Tasmanian skipper George Bailey wanted to declare much earlier, the directive was reportedly handed down to continue the innings and give Tim Paine a chance at the crease that, after he finished 71 not out, ultimately helped him seal a Test recall.
Eventually the declaration did come, the Tigers set the Vics 453 to win in a day and one session.
Tremain’s side made it to 2-67 at stumps, before rain squashed any chance of a result on the fourth day, the Bushrangers finished 5-106 when bad light forced the end of the game. Test hopeful Glen Maxwell was left stranded on 45 not out.
Tremain was excellent with the ball again, continuing his form this summer, taking 2-27 from 10 in Tasmania’s first innings of 172.
He was one of just two wicket-takers in the Tigers’ second dig, Tremain snaring 1-42 from 20 as Tasmania made 2-424, declared.
Victoria, winless and fifth through three rounds, faces NSW at North Sydney Oval next up.
The clash starts on Friday.
