After representing Orange, Mitchell Cricket Council, Western Zone and NSW Country in recent seasons, the 14-year-old will test himself against the best Sydney has to offer after being officially named in Penrith’s squad for the 2017-18 NSW Premier Cricket AW Green Shield.
His selection for the Panthers’ under 16s outfit comes just a week after he helped Western’s open side to fifth at the NSW Combined High Schools Championship, he was named in CHS’ under 15s side for next month’s All Schools trials as a result.
Weymouth is joined in Penrith’s squad by Forbes’ Darcy Leadbitter, who also impressed during the trial process.
That selection process kicked off back in September, Weymouth originally heading to Penrith’s Howell Oval for the initial trial and winning through to phase two.
He donned the black, red, yellow, green and white of Penrith for the first time in early October, knocking up a composed 43 in a practice game at Bowral.
Penrith’s 15-man squad opens its Green Shield account against Northern District at Mark Taylor Oval on December 14, continuing its campaign against Sutherland, Blacktown, Sydney, Gordon, Campbelltown-Camden and Fairfield-Liverpool before the finals kick-off in late January.
Weymouth’s been in stunning form so far this summer too, in club cricket alone he’s pummelled 184 runs at 60.
He kicked off the summer with an excellent, unbeaten century, tonning up against CYMS in the opening round of the ODJCA’s under 16s competition.
He backed that 101 not out up with a 62 in round two, and while his returns at the rep level haven’t been quite as impressive they’ve been solid as well.
