The production, which had a sold out season at Sydney’s Hayes Theatre this year is heading to Orange as the headline show of the Civic Theatre’s 2018 season announced on Wednesday night.
It is one of 30 drama, musical, indigenous, circus, comedy, children’s and opera performances coming to Orange in 2018 in the biggest season so far.
Performing arts and venues manager Michelle Pearce said she had worked with the Calamity Jane production company to secure the show for seven performances from February 28-March 4.
It will star Virginia Gay from TV shows All Saints and Winners & Losers and the original cast.
“This is our largest season,” she said.
“We couldn’t put the children’s shows on the wall [in the foyer] because there are so many shows in 2018.”
Mayor Reg Kidd said council was proud of the lineup which includes the Orange Theatre Company presenting Legally Blonde The Musical, Opera Australia’s Madame Butterfly and comedy shows from the Melbourne and Sydney comedy festivals.
“Not only are there more shows, 30 in fact, the calibre of shows is phenomenal.”
Council’s services policy committee chair Cr Kevin Duffy said subscriptions were open for the season.
“Tickets for these amazing performances are on sale now for anyone who signs up to a subscription season,” he said.
“Everyone else will have to wait until December 11 to purchase tickets.”
