The crowd at Bathurst Panthers had already seen 15 captivating bouts – 11 of which had gone to split decision – before Littlefield and Telford put on four strong rounds for their Australian Global League Light Middleweight title fight.
Littlefield had the upper hand over Telford before the man they call ‘The Trigger’ knocked the Orange fighter to the canvas in the third round.
Despite the knock Littlefield was quick to get to his feet but the blow swung the fight in Telford’s favour, who went on win on a unanimous decision.
“This was the third time they’ve fought and after winning one each this was the decider,” Jack’s father and coach Dave said.
“Jack was in control for maybe the first two and a half rounds. He’s very disappointed to go down but it was a really great night for Central West boxing.
“He’s been to Tasmania, Queensland and all around NSW this year so it’s great to get what you could call a local fight.
“He’s been fighting the best amateur boxers from across Australia. He’s won some and he’s lost some and all that experience certainly showed in this fight.”
The fight was the last as an amateur for Telford who now steps onto the professional scene.
An impressive lineup of boxers from across Bathurst and the Central West put on a great show for the crowd.
Promoter Jamie Fallon, of Snakebite Boxing, was thrilled with the reception the night received.
“Those split decisions showed how well matched all the fighters were,” he said.
“The Bathurst community got behind this so much and it’s great to see a night of amateur boxing like this in the Central West.
“There were some great performances by some of the best boxers in Bathurst and it was such a good fight to watch for the main event.
“I made the decision to put Jack as the main event and I’m so glad I did because he got so much great support from Orange visitors.
“All our sponsors were there supporting us on the night and we couldn’t have done this without them.
“We’re now in talks to bring the National Novice Titles here next year. League Boxing NSW were happy with how the night went and also with the infrastructure we’ve got here in Bathurst so to be nominated for hosting that event is amazing.”
