It was the first time the SPAR supermarket in Molong, run by Peter Crich and Patrick Brennan has won the major Cabonne Daroo Business Award.
However, it has been a category winner on several occasions.
The owners thanked their hard-working staff.
The awards were announced in Yeoval on Friday night.
Cabonne council economic development officer Dale Jones said as less than five votes separated the winner from second place the runners-up, MBC Molong and Studio 1991, were highly commended.
The employee of the year award was won by Belinda Thurtell of YBM while Tara Walker of the Cudal Community Children’s Centre was apprentice of the year.
The Canowindra Balloon Challenge won the award for the best business contribution to the region while the Long White Lunch won the prize for the biggest contribution by a community organisation.
Fencing 1 won the award for the best business fostering disability inclusion.
The Cumnock General Store won the award for excellence in service operations by a small entity while MSM Milling won the award for the best large entity.
Chairman of the awards and executive officer of Central NSW Business HQ Bruce Buchanan said businesses in the region had faced a tough time in recent years.
“What a privilege it has been to see the way businesses have managed through such tough economic times,” he said.
