In some cases we have guests who will have a short-term stay while undergoing trial cancer drug treatment. Our occupancy level in terms of long-term stays is high, with many guests staying from seven to nine weeks.
As of this month we have been operational for six years and with a continued high occupancy level of 22 rooms, we are now replacing some items in our rooms. We will also be fundraising shortly to supply surrounding fencing for the lodge gardens and lawn space.
We continue to raise funds, with one group of supporters, led by one of our board – Denise Wilson – providing annual fundraising at the Millthorpe Markets and the Millthorpe Garden Ramble since 2009.
This year’s fundraiser will be held at Grove Cottage, just outside Millthorpe in a picturesque location featured in the Garden Ramble on Saturday and Sunday.
Denise and her friends have raised over $ 40,000 since commencing their efforts, with the funds contributing directly to guest furnishings.
This year’s efforts will be used to replace some bedroom chairs.
Cancer Care Western NSW recently hosted a successful conference of regional hospital service providers for NSW at the lodge.
Present were representatives from Albury, Wagga, Shoalhaven, Tamworth, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Dubbo and Lismore, as well as representatives from IPTAAS and the NSW Cancer Council.
It was a successful conference – which is held annually – providing participants with opportunities to visit and observe each area’s operations.
We were fortunate to be able to showcase our wonderful service to a broad range of participants.
We look forward to continuing our cancer patient support efforts in the future within our medical service area of 280,000 people.
