The school won a NSW Mental Health Promoting Workplace Award for its Act-Belong-Commit program after being nominated by the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health in Orange.
Anson Street School principal Melanie Meers introduced the program last year.
“Our focus was on well-being because we have such a complex school,” Mrs Meers said.
“We have also been doing mindfulness and having staff trained in mindfulness in education.
“This will tie in with looking at the well-being of students and staff.”
Mrs Meers said it has resulted in a greater sense of community, giving opportunities for parents to engage meaningfully within the school and addressing the increased prevalence of mental health concerns in young people.
