Inspired by discoveries she made on the trek Miss Culverson has since become an international volunteer.
She has volunteered as a medical officer and rebuilding wells in Nepal and joined a federal government leadership forum to Vanuatu.
And now she plans to join the Army Reserve as a pharmaceutical officer, volunteers in the Rural Fire Service and will be doing a medical tour of the Solomons Islands.
Miss Culverson, sponsored by the Orange Ex-Services’ Club has been rewarded as this year’s joint Spirit of Kokoda Award winner.
“[Kokoda] really has changed the way I live as an Australian,” she said.
“I see [it] as a foundation for everything I’ve achieved since and how I live my life in Orange.”
Ex-Services’ CEO Cameron Provost said the club backed the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge.
“Jennifer is leading by example and we are proud to be driving these types of community-building initiatives,” he said.
