Bonnie Parry-Jones said that while she was happy with the help GoFundMe had provided for her fundraising efforts she was concerned about the fees which she described as “high.”
She said the company took 7.25 per cent of the total amount donated plus 30 cents for every donation.
Ms Parry-Jones said it amounted to fees of about $1000 from the $12,000 donated through GoFundMe.
“It is high, it is a bit more than I thought,” she said.
“I do think that if you are doing it, just make sure you read the fine print.
“It does add up.”
Ms Parry-Jones said she thought the total funding through GoFundMe and other methods had reached her target of $20,000 to pay for a Smart Pups dog to help her young son Harrison who developed severe autism at just 14 months.
However, when the fees were deducted she was short by $1800 and will now be hoping another fundraising event, a movie screening at Odeon 5 cinemas on Friday November 3 will raise enough money for the pup.
She said using GoFundMe had allowed her to raise money faster than she envisaged.
That was partly due to the firm organising an interview that had publicised her cause.
“I don’t regret using GoFundMe, I knew there was a small fee but we didn’t expect to be what it was.”
Ms Parry-Jones said GoFundMe also deducted their fees as each donation came in, which she was initially unaware of.
She said that once she reached the target they would pay it to Smart Pups in Queensland which would then begin a 12-14 month training program for the pup.
“We need to travel up to Queensland to meet with Smart Pups,” she said.
Contact Ms Jones via Facebook to book a ticket to the Bad Moms 2 movie night which starts at 6.45pm.
Tickets are $25. Lucky door prizes will be won and games will be held.
