TIM Blanchard might be out of the running for the Supercars drivers’ championship, but when it comes to this Sunday’s Bathurst 1000 that may work in his favour.
It means the CoolDrive Racing driver, who will share his newly-built Commodore with Todd Hazelwood, can purely focus on winning the Great Race.
“We are obviously not fighting for a championship, so we can probably take a few more risks than those guys,” he said.
“While everyone wants to win Bathurst and they say they don’t really think about the championship over the Bathurst weekend, you know, there’s still a lot of pressure on those guys to win the championship.
“As much as they say it’s not, it has to be.
“We can afford to take, not silly risks, but a lot more risks in terms of strategy and things we do to try and get an advantage.
“It’s a good opportunity to exploit that like we did last year and it kind of paid off for us, we were 10th.”
