It costs $138 a night to keep the doors of each room open at Ronald McDonald House Orange.
Families staying at the house usually have a sick or injured child at the Orange Health Service and when they leave their rooms they have a three-minute walk to the back doors of the hospital where they can visit their sick child any time of the day or night.
Many travel long distances to use medical services in Orange, with families making the journey from towns like Parkes, Temora, Forbes and Condobolin.
Anyone who has visited the house is immediately impressed with the warm and welcoming atmosphere which provides a ‘soft place to land’ for families with a child who is unwell and requires specialist treatment in Orange.
By offering a room to our families free of charge it means they no longer have to sleep in cars after travelling long distances or to sleep in chairs in the wards, or pay for hotel rooms which are often beyond their financial capabilities.
But to continue to offer this comfort to families in need, Ronald McDonald House Orange depends greatly on the generosity of communities, businesses and individuals from across the western region.

There are several ways you can help keep the doors open for a night!
Why not consider getting together with a group of friends to sponsor a night at the house? Perhaps you could organise a fundraiser to sponsor one or several nights at the house. If you are a member of a community organisation or service club, sponsoring a night at the house is a worthwhile gesture.
And there’s nothing to say you can’t have a whip around at the pub or your next social event to come up with $138.
It is all the small ways in which generous donors contribute that has resulted in the building of this valuable facility.
The house has eight family units, including a self contained unit for a family who may have a child with auto-immune issues or who cannot be integrated into the main living areas of the house for a variety of medical reasons.
At tonight’s annual ball, volunteers will display a banner providing the opportunity to nominate which night of the year you would like to fund to keep one of the rooms open. All donations are tax deductible.
