He has called for the re-establishment of a plant to speed up road repairs as part of his campaign for the September 9 election.
“I will re-establish a hot mix facility in Orange to allow council’s road maintenance program to be instant rather than waiting for available stocks,” he said.
“Whilst we had our own facility [about 20 years ago] the maintenance programs were much more immediate.
“We’re seeing now that we’re having to wait long periods of time for hot mix stock to be made available because it is being used by the RMS [Roads and Maritime Services] and other councils.
“I believe that having our own hot mix facility that will promote jobs internally within the council.”
He said council could respond quicker to road repairs and schedule maintenance.
Cr Whitton is standing for mayor and for the council.
He said the community was fed up with rifts and codes of conduct between councillors and with staff and he would push for cohesiveness and collaboration.
His running mate Gavin Hillier said he wanted to promote the view of younger people on council.
Mr Hillier has called for real-time tracking through council of issues raised by ratepayers and converting the old tip into a solar farm.
He also wants to move all charity bins from the CBD to the waste recycling centre to stop items being strewn on the streets on weekends.
