Some of Orange’s most promising young athletes were recognised at the Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) annual presentation evening at Panthers Bathurst on Saturday night.

Hockey young-guns Henry Jones and Millah Allcorn were both honoured with high achiever and coach’s awards respectively.
Jones’ was as the Squad Athlete of the Year in his chosen sport while Allcorn took out the coach’s award as the most dedicated or improved athlete in hockey.
Jack Connors (para-sports) and Sophie Brisbane (netball) also took out the high achiever awards for their respective sports.
Connors, too, was one of two athletes named to attend a Parliamentary Reception in Sydney on September 19, member for Bathurst Paul Toole on hand to make the announcement.
While Luke Tuckwell (cycling) won a coach’s award as well.
And Craig Harvey was named the Collin’s Office Choice Volunteer of the Year for his work with netball and basketball sides in the region.
The 250 guests in attendance at the awards dinner were delighted by special guest speaker, Susan Pettitt, an Australian Diamond, NSW Swift and a current member of the impressive Giants Netball team that competed in this year’s inaugural Suncorp Super Netball grand final.
