Colmar Estate and Montoro Wines each received a gold, silver and bronze medal, while Printhie Wines received a silver and two bronze and Angullong Vineyard took home three bronze.
Colmar Estate owner Bill Shrapnel was proud the 2016 Riesling won gold against some of the best wines in the country, saying rieslings varied between regions.
“We tend to get fine, pure flavours and a hint of citrus,” he said.
With 13 trophies in three years, Mr Shrapnel said he and wife Jane knew the vines were capable of good wine, but it was up to them to realise the potential.
“We keep our yields low and don’t ask our vines to produce too much fruit so that concentrates the wines that come from them, and we hand-pick our whole vineyard,” he said.
Montoro Wines scored the highest in the Orange wine region, with 96 for its 2013 Pepper Shiraz, and owner Bob Derrick said it was a lovely feeling.
“That’s Grange territory,” he said.
With his vineyard specialising in shiraz, Mr Derrick said Orange reds were starting to make their mark.
“Judges are realising we produce lighter and more elegant wines,” he said.
“We’re being discovered.”
