A man was driving a Mitsubishi Magna in Moad Street when police attempted to the stop the man for a random breath test at 4am.
Canobolas Local Area Command duty officer Chief Inspector Dave Harvey said officers initiated a pursuit after the driver ignored the request to stop.
The car lead police around a number of city streets before being abandoned.
After the car was abandoned, Chief Inspector Harvey said the man ran east along Coulson Place.
The driver is described as male, wearing dark clothes and a dark baseball cap.
Chief Inspector Harvey said an investigation had been opened into the matter and police were asking for anyone with information to come forward.
“Police would ask anyone to pull over when asked by police otherwise more serious charges may follow,” he said.
Anyone with information can contact Orange police on 6363 6399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A previous version of this story incorrectly said the pursuit finished in Moad Street.
