This year marks the third year out of seven that Parkes will host the Women's Masters Southern State Hockey Championships.
From July 28 to July 30, up to 61 teams – totalling about 1000 people – will descend on the town to compete over the three days in 10 different divisions.
Orange will field sides in all five of the tournament’s age divisions, and two in over 35s, over 40s and over 45s.
“The women are crackers, they always have a great time at the championships … it’s a really good atmosphere.” Parkes Hockey president Aaron Huppatz said.
“The women really enjoy themselves and they spend their money too, which is great.”
Parkes’ two hockey turfs and all of its grass fields will be occupied during the championships.
Huppatz said Parkes Hockey Incorporated has been very busy this year preparing for the event.
It will be all hands on deck over the course of the weekend to ensure a successful carnival.
“All of our volunteers will be coming together to help out,” Huppatz said.
“We’ll have barbecue tents and soup kitchens, we’re going to be showcasing what Parkes has to offer.”
