The history of the Orange Fire Brigade and the Summer Street fire station are the subject of the next History Alive meeting.

Current station officer Matt Jeffery and historic fire engine restoration worker Peter Fuge will be guest speakers at the meeting on Wednesday night.
Orange and District Historical Society members Liz Edwards and Ross Maroney will also show photos of local fires and the brigade.
Ms Edwards said the fire brigade did not get a motorised engine until 1918.
“Fires, which occurred frequently in wooden buildings and in hay sheds were public spectacles,” she said.

The meeting is at the Senior Citizens Centre from 6.30pm.
There will also be a fire station tour on July 22.
Meanwhile tickets [$35] are still available for the History storytelling workshop, as part of the Orange Readers and Writers Festival on July 21.
The all-day event at the Hotel Canobolas will feature speakers including Alison Wishart from the State Library of NSW and author Carrolline Rhodes.
