There are unconfirmed reports one of the nursing staff was strangled by the patient, while the other suffered a serious eye injury that required treatment.
In a statement to the Central Western Daily, Western NSW Health wrote a “patient in the adult unit of Bloomfield Hospital at Orange allegedly assaulted two nursing staff members”.
“Both staff members were subsequently assessed at the Orange Health Service and have been discharged.”
“The matter has been referred to police.”
The statement addressed the impact of “shift management changes in recent weeks”, saying “the number of staff on night duty at Bloomfield Hospital has been maintained” and “is calculated in relation to the number of patients in the unit”.
