Orange police have arrested five people during a two-day blitz on shoplifting in the city’s centre.

Officers from Canobolas Local Area Command (LAC) started the crackdown on Tuesday last week, working with several major retailers and businesses.
LAC duty officer Inspector Linda Bradbury said the operation was “to combat an increase in retail theft over the last six months”.
“As a result of the operation, numerous persons were detected stealing from major retail stores in the Orange CBD,” Inspector Bradbury said.
Between March and May this year, there were 59 reports of thefts and police are working with shops and security staff to reduce opportunities for offenders.
Police officers searched 24 people suspected to be carrying property stolen from shops while 16 people were issued move-on directions to leave the CBD.
Seven fines were issued and police cautioned two young people.
During the operation;
- A 41-year-old woman from Orange was charged with shoplifting and un-licensed driving. She was granted bail by Orange Local Court and will return to face charges on June 26.
- A 18-year-old man from Kelso was charged with shoplifting and entering a rail corridor, he was granted conditional bail and will face Orange Local Court on July 31.
- A 47-year-old Orange woman was charged with shoplifting.
- A 27-year-old Kingswood woman will face Orange Local Court on June 26 after being charged with shoplifting, possessing a knife in public and breaching bail conditions.
- A 26-year-old man from Orange was charged with shoplifting and will face Orange Local Court on July 10.
