They were taken up with private coaching lessons, Orange High School training for the Astley Cup tennis tie – which they won on Thursday – and also the Junior Program, who were contesting a Davis Cup style competition.
In keeping with the State of Origin clash the teams were named Queensland and New South Wales.
The NSW team consisted of Noah Bartlett, Tijana Radojicic, Charlie Hodges, Millie Johnston, Charlie Hall and Ollie Taberner, who won narrowly over the Qld team of Jonty Kingham, Mitch Anderson, Ella Kingham, Dougald Hook, Phoebe Johnston, William Boyd and Isabella Boyd, 25 to 24 games.
It was nice to see NSW win something that night.
All the participants have enjoyed the eight-week program and after the matches on Wednesday, we held a presentation of awards.
The shot maker medal went to Charlie Hodges, the most improved trophy went to Isabella Boyd, highest points against the coach trophy was won by Mitch Anderson and the sportsmanship trophy was won by Jonty Kingham.
All the juniors who participated were also awarded a certificate.
The organisers wish to thank Tolie from Central West Trophies for your sponsorship, Joshua Ristvej for assisting the coach each week and coach Chris Doucas for his motivation in getting it up and running.
There are a couple of events coming up.
The first one being, the holiday coaching clinic ran by Darren and Alison.
It will run from Monday, July 3 to Wednesday, July 5, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
All Juniors are invited to come down and join in these clinics but it is best to be quick, as they are very popular and fill up fast.
Please phone the clubhouse on 6362 8020 or Alison on 0414 428 875 to register.
The second one is the brand new men’s singles competition, which will be held over four consecutive Sundays, starting on August 6 from 10am.
There will a light lunch served afterwards, followed by the usual mixed social afternoon at 1.30pm.
To register in this comp, please phone the clubhouse.
Another item of interest for the younger ones is the hot shots programs held every Friday afternoon from 3.30 to 5.30pm and for adults there is social tennis on Thursdays and Sundays.
Secretary Brad Penrose is on duty to run mixed this Sunday from 1.30pm and Rosemary Cooper won the free hit voucher last Sunday.
Our committee were saddened to hear of the passing of a long time member and player, Peggy Sharp.
Peggy was a great player and supported our club in many events.
We send our sincere condolences to her family.
