A service station and a retail store are planned to join the new La Porchetta restaurant in Peisley Street between Summer and Kite Streets if development applications before Orange City Council are approved.
The developments would provide increased traffic and business to a section of town in need of a fresh look.
Orange City Council spokesman Nick Redmond said council had recently received applications for the service station and retail store.
Details of the applicants have not been revealed.
“Both applications have been received, both are being assessed,” he said.
Mr Redmond said the service station application was for 176-178 Peisley Street, which is currently empty after a former warehouse building was removed.
He said the retail store application was for a new building under construction at 161-165 Peisley Street, adjacent to the Aldi car park.
Mr Redmond said the service station site would not require re-zoning however the other site needed a “change of use” approval as the site was formerly an office whereas the new application was for a retail outlet.
New La Porchetta Orange franchisee Julie Campbell announced on Wednesday they would be taking over the old Roberts Bakery site, two doors up from the proposed service station, and expected to be open in June.
Mrs Campbell said the adjacent car yard would be retained as it would not be required for parking spaces under the development approval by council.
She said patrons would be able to park on-street in front of the restaurant and use the council car park opposite.
Mrs Campbell said their anticipated busiest hours would be Thursday-Saturday nights when parking would be available in Peisley Street.
