Orange’s Mitch Williamson and Nicki Melino kept the pace with them though, claiming podium finishes in their respective divisions.
Williamson ran third in the men’s race while Melino claimed silver in the women’s, clocking impressive times of 34 minutes and 55 seconds and 44 minutes and six seconds respectively.
Chris Hamer and Harry Summers finished first and second, respectively, in the men’s race.
Both have represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games and both are previous Orange Running Festival champions.
In fact Summers won the half marathon last year and is also coming off a big win in Sydney’s City2Surf.
Hamer clocked 30 minutes and 25 seconds to win, substantially better than his winning time of 32.14 in 2015, with Summers (33.53) about three-and-a-half minutes further back in second.
Williamson was just over a minute further back in third, signalling his undeniable – and already renowned – process on the pavement.
Orange’s Nicki Melino was impressive in the women’s race too, claiming silver.
Melino (44.06) matched it with renowned runner and eventual winner Jacinta Bill (42.14) for much of the run and eventually finished less than two minutes behind Bill.
Shannon Short (44.55) was also strong in the women’s race, she ended up finishing third.
