Anyone touted as a future Olympian is sure to be able to fire pretty straight.
After claiming last year’s cartridge crown, Schiller went on to represent both NSW and Australia and is held among the country’s best clay target shooters and a shot at donning the green and gold at Tokyo in 2020.
Schiller is also a current world champion, the Young product proved age is no barrier by claiming the 2016 International Clay Target Shooting Federation World Down The Line (DTL) Championships in Ireland, aged just 23.
He shot a score of 897 out of a possible 900 to become the 12th DTL World Champion.
“It was always a goal of mine, but coming over here and competing against the world’s best – including three past world champions – you just don’t think it would or could ever happen,” Schiller said after becoming world champion.
“We are privileged to have Matt back to defend his title,” Orange Clay Target Club’s Grant Spencer said ahead of the two-day shoot.
“The going will be fierce this year with over a dozen state and Australian shooters on hand.
“It really is the best of the best, Orange is ideally located to attract shooters from country areas as well as Sydney and major provincial areas.”
The club is encouraging spectators to attend the event at the club’s range, on Dry Creek Road, Lewis Ponds.
Competition will begin at 9am on Saturday before wrapping up at 12pm on Sunday, February 26.
