Library staff members revealed the newly refurbished premises to the Orange community on Monday.
New features include updated decor and furniture as well as a different layout and design.
Children have access to colourful new seating for the library’s story time and 10 minutes a day activities as well as plastic chairs in the shape of a dog.
Orange City librarian Sean Brady said members of the community had responded well to the new-look library.
“They’ve responded really well and they’ve seen this as a really positive thing,” Mr Brady said.
“People are really happy that we have beautiful new furniture, comfortable spaces and just a totally different looking library space.”
Mr Brady said there was also an improved wi-fi service for library members to take advantage of.
“Now you don’t need to come to the desk and ask for more wi-fi access,” he said.
“Those kinds of services have immediately been taken up by people here.”
Mr Brady thanked members of the community for their patience while the library transitioned to the new changes.
“It’s a teething time, we’re settling in and we’re finding all of the things that don’t work for us,” he said.
“We’re trying very hard to make it all right and make it work for them and some things will take time to sort things out administratively.
“We ask for patience from the public but we do invite them to come in, use the space, use the wi-fi and the collection is here for them use.”
Staff members across Central West Libraries will continue to work hard as they finish electronically tagging about 80,000 books and magazines.
“It’s a mammoth effort. The staff have put in a huge amount of time and energy over the last three weeks,” he said.
New self-service kiosks for borrowing and returning are currently underway and are expected to be up and running between late March and early April.
The library is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm, on Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.
