Daniel Luke Maguire, 36, of Phillip Street, was charged with receiving and disposing of stolen property.
The bat was in a cricket bag valued at a total of $1300 that was stolen from a car overnight between November 3 and 4, 2016.
Maguire was represented by solicitor Gerry Stapleton who said he bought the bat to stop a friend using it as a weapon.
