Mrs Skinner announced her retirement from politics on Friday after reports she met with Premier Gladys Berejiklian and told her she would have the health portfolio or nothing.
Ms Berejiklian had been widely expected to dump Mrs Skinner from cabinet.
Push for Palliative president Tracey Wilkinson said sometimes change was good.
“I just hope whoever the new person who becomes the NSW minister for health has more compassion for palliative care services,” she said.
“One doctor and a handful of nurses is not enough and he has to go over the whole central west.”
The group, which has collected 7000 petition signatures, had struggled to make headway with Mrs Skinner and former member for Orange Andrew Gee, but Ms Wilkinson said current MP Phil Donato would take the petition to parliament.
